The Lelean Memorial School Under-17 players honoured their late winger Pita Volau in their 17-15 win over Ratu Navula College yesterday.

The win has seen LMS booked their spot in the U17 Powerade Super Deans Rugby final.

The LMS players and officials wore black armbands.

“Around this time on Friday we were attending the funeral service in Nasinu and it motivated the players knowing that Volau was always one person who kept the team together,” coach LMS U17 coach Viliame Gucake said.

“We kept on fighting right to the last minute.

“Ratu Navula came in strongly and they exploited our weaknesses especially in the break downs and also on our defence which we need to really work on.”

Ratu Navula dominated play and led throughout the match. With a 15-14 lead, a late surge by LMS saw them got a penalty and Michael Ofati converted for the much-needed win.

Gucake said although the LMS U18 team were not able to make the semifinal they are heading into the final to represent the whole school.

In the second semifinal Queen Victoria School edged out Marist Brothers High School 25-21.
