Maneeza Takes Top Hindi Orator Award

Maneeza Khan was honoured by her school after winning the National Hindi Oratory and Mathematician award.
She was among those recognised for their hard work and dedication during the Deenbandhoo Memorial School awards event on Saturday night.
Originally from India, Maneeza and her family are here because her father, Dr Gausal Azam Khan, is an associate professor at the Fiji National University’s College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.
The 12-year-old shed tears of joy for her achievement.
“It feels great to be receiving this award especially as a foreigner and I thank the school for making me feel welcomed,” Maneeza said.
“I would not have achieved this award without the help of my parents, teachers and friends.
“The first time I came to Fiji I didn’t know what to expect, but then it turned out great.
“The teachers were supportive and the Fijian people are friendly. Fiji holds a special place in my heart.
“I want to work for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in the future because I have the passion to help people especially children.”
Dr Khan said: “I am happy with my daughter’s achievement and it is a great sign, especially since we just moved to Fiji last year.
“I did not know how my daughter would do in school but seeing her receive this award shows that she loves it here.
“She is a bright student who does her best in everything that she does and her achievement here means a lot to us.
“As a father I will support her decision in whatever career choice she makes as long as she is happy.”
