Turn Over Illicit Drugs While You Have Time, Amnesty Period In Place: Police

Members of the public who may have bars of cocaine in their possession are to turn over the illicit drugs to Police. This comes after Police received information about people trying to sell the illicit drugs.
An amnesty period has been put in place effective from today until Monday 20 August 2018.
Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said in light of the recent discoveries of bars of cocaine on our shores, the Fiji Police Force has put in place an amnesty period to allow those who may have made similar discoveries to turn over the illicit drugs to Police.
“Information has been received about persons trying to sell the illicit drugs and while investigations are on-going, we are calling on anyone who may have found any bars of cocaine to utilise this amnesty period and hand them over to Police.
“Any person who without lawful authority acquires, supplies possesses, manufactures, cultivates, uses or administers an illicit drug; or engages in any dealings with any other person for the transfer, transport, supply, use, manufacture, offer, sale, import or export of an illicit drug, commits an offence and will be prosecuted under the Illicit Drugs Control Act 2004.
“Members of the public are requested to call on the toll-free number 3318 529 if they have any information or may have made similar discoveries of cocaine,” Brigadier-General Qiliho said.
