Fijiana 7s Rep Back With Football

Her passion of playing football and civic pride was what brought Viniana Riwai back to football.
Riwai, who was a recent Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team member, rejoined the Vodafone Fiji Women’s football team preparing for the OFC Women’s qualifiers.
Riwai said he was proud to serve her country both in football and rugby.
“I am always happy to fly Fiji’s flag whether its rugby and football because I love both sports,” she said.
The Cakaudrove native began her sporting career in football representing Labasa Muslim College before she was selected to be part of the Labasa women’s team that won the Inter-District Championship two years in a row in 2012 and 2013.
She said coming back to football was another challenge for her.
“Returning to football will be a bit tough for me as I have been playing rugby,”
Riwai who plays as a midfielder is looking forward to get back to football with the support of her team-mates.
“I know it won’t be hard for me because my teammates are very helpful and I have gelled well with them and hope to get back the touches of football soon,” said Riwai.
She is ready to help the Vodafone national women team at the OFC qualifiers this month.
“I am happy that I am once again given an opportunity to play for my country in football and will do my best to help the team qualify for the OFC Nations Cup,”
“I know it won’t be that hard for me as I have been playing at the first five eight in rugby and have been kicking a lot and I think that will help me well to get back my touches,”
She was also part of the national Under- 19 women’s team during the 2015 Mini Pacific Games.
