Indian, Fijian Teams Hold Free Medical Screening

The Medical team onboard the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sahyadri together with Fijian doctors will hold free health screen­ing at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva today.

The free screening is from 10am to 4.30pm.

INS Sahyadri is currently berthed in Suva after taking part in the Rim of the Pacific Exercise in Hawaii.

The ship arrived in Fiji on Monday followed by the welcoming cer­emony done by the Republic of Fiji Military Force (RFMF).

India’s High Commissioner to Fiji Vishwas Sapkal said that India and Fiji have strong bonds which they share. He said a group of around 20 medical personnel were onboard.

Indian Naval Defence Adviser Captain (Navy) Manish Rai said the INS Sahyadri has been at sea for the past three months and the men were looking forward to come to Fiji.

“From here they will continue their journey to Australia,” said Captain Rai.

He said when they entered the southern Fiji waters; every weapon system was brought into safe mode to ensure the basic trust and basic relationship between Fiji and India that that has always been main­tained.

Captain (Navy) Shantanu Jha said this was the INS Sahyadri’s first vis­it to Fiji with 290 officers and sailors on board the stealth multi-role frig­ate are here on a good will visit.

“We are excited to meet the Fijian people throughout our visit,” Captain Jha said.

The ships crew will also commemo­rate the 72nd Independence Day of India at the Port of Suva today.
