Navosa Netters On Course

Navosa One ‘dream team’ aim to retain the Under 14 title of the Western Lewasewa Primary Netball Championship at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
They were the same set of team that has been winning in all their grades since Under 9.
The tournament kicked off yesterday with seven districts and 68 teams from the western division.
Coach Adi Alesi Kurikaba said despite the challenges they endured during the build up to the tournament, the girls were determined to retain their title.
“Our schools are located deep in the interior of Navosa and the girls in this team are students from five schools within the province,”Kurikaba said.
“Due to the geographical location, it is hard for us to find transport so we meet once in a week for training and I want to thank the individual schools for preparing the girls.”
Over the past six years, Kurikaba said the team has forged a bond which had made easier for her as coach to train them.
“We travelled for more than three hours from the village to be here for the tournament. We brought all our training gear and even firewood for cooking our meals throughout the tournament.
“Navosa is aiming to take the Under 14 title back to the interior even though there are other strong teams but we are ready,” she added.
The beat Ba 9-6, Yasawa 9-5 and drew with Lautoka Two 6-6.
The tournament continues today with the finals in the afternoon.
