The Natabua High School captain Orisi Amaraki sealed the win in the Tuckers Fiji Secondary Schools Under-19 final yesterday.

The Lautoka-based school beat Marist Brothers High 1-0 in extra time to defend the boy’s title for another year.

NHS teacher Laniana Camaitoga said there was tough competition throughout from the pool stages to the playoffs.  And they were not sure whether they would progress to the semifinals.

“The competition was tough seeing schools like Tilak High School going down by just one point in a penalty shootout,” Camaitoga said.

“It is one of the toughest games we have had and we would like to thank everyone that supported us along the way.”

Meanwhile,  in the U19 girls grade, St Joseph’s Secondary School defeated Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial College (SSKMC) 2-0 in the final.

Fiji Secondary Schools Hockey Association president Immanuel Prasad has confirmed that next year’s tournament will be held at Nadovu Park, Lautoka.

“The level of performance is getting better through the years and from the result today we can see that schools from Suva and the West had dominated the boys and girls grades,” Prasad said.

“Like always, we will be rotating the venue of the tournament to give chances to other districts to participate, so it will held in Lautoka.”

Prasad said they will be looking to select a few players to be part of the national squad for the Oceania playoffs at the end of the year.

Semifinal results:

Girls: SJSS1-0LPS, SSKMC 2-1 SJC

Boys: NHS 7-6 THS, MBHS 2-1 SGS
