Villagers Benefit From Upgraded Natewa West Coast Road

Deteriorating road conditions will now be a thing of the past for the more than 500 villagers living along Natewa West Coast Road in Vanua Levu.
Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is carrying out the road upgrade through Fulton Hogan Hiways who implement road maintenance on behalf of FRA in the Central, Eastern and Northern Divisions.
The Natewa West Coast Road is 60 kilometres away from Savusavu town and is off Buca Bay Road.
This road, according to Tabia Village headman, Mataika Tuicakau, used to be accessible by four-wheel drive vehicles and trucks only – a burden they have struggled with for more than two years.
The upgrade includes clearing of drainage, removing of high shoulders, gravelling, grading and compacting of the road as well.
The road services two villages, namely Tabia and Vunidogoloa, and connects to a copra farming settlement located along the road.
Before our work, farmers sometimes missed the marketing day during rainy days because of the soggy condition of the road.
