University Dismisses Two Staff Members For Alleged Misconduct

Two Fiji National University staff members were dismissed for academic dishonesty in unrelated cases.
FNU Vice Chancellor Nigel Healey confirmed this to the Fiji Sun yesterday.
He said one was dismissed in December last year and the other one in March this year.
“As Fiji’s national university, FNU takes the issue of academic integrity extremely seriously and does not tolerate the misrepresentation of qualifications on the part of its staff,” Mr Healey said.
“The university thoroughly investigated both cases, taking evidence from the staff involved and other members of the university, and cross-checking against the university’s database of certificates with the FNU seal.
“When it was confirmed that the qualifications claimed were not genuine, the staff members were dismissed for gross misconduct.”
The matter was resolved via the university’s internal disciplinary system.
