Youths all Set For Buenos Aires

Three athletes have been selected to represent Team Fiji at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 6-18.
This was confirmed yesterday by FASANOC chief executive office Lorraine Mar at a press conference at Fiji Olympic House in Suva.
“I’m happy to announce that we have three athletes who will be representing Fiji at the Youth Olympic Games,” she said.
“In athletics, it is Serena Ragatu a female athlete who has been given a universality place, then Grace Yee in table tennis who was identified by the international federation while in badminton it’s Chang Hon Kim who also has been invited by the international federation.”
Mar said the officials accompanying the athletes are Calvin Yee for athletics, Robert Scott for badminton and for table tennis it is Carolyn Lee.
“The whole objective is to give young athletes a chance to participate in these Games as to prepare for future events.”
Mar added that there is an educational programme hosted for athletes after their participation in their respective fields.
“The programme is based on the Olympic Games and its values.
“As one of the policies all athletes after participating are to remain throughout the competition where they will be learning some Olympic values.
“We are very pleased that we have three athletes so far unfortunately we do not have any teams qualifying.”
Mar said if any athlete or official who feels that they should have been selected has the opportunity to lodge their appeal which should reach her by next Monday.
