Man, 61, In Custody For Station Incident

A 61-year-old man has been remanded in custody after he appeared in the Nasinu Magistrates Court charged with obstructing a female Police constable from doing her job.

Kaliopate Toka was produced before Magistrate Sufia Hamza in court on Monday charged with one count of serious assault.

On August 17, 2018, Toka allegedly entered the Valelevu Police Station at 1pm and wilfully obstructed Police Constable Iryn Singh while in the execution of her duty.

The accused allegedly entered the charge room at the Police station and obstructed Constable Singh from preparing the charge statement for Toka’s 17-year-old son.

Legal Aid Commission duty solicitor Lisiate Qetaki appeared for Toka.

The case was adjourned to August 27, 2018, for formal bail application.
