Man Fronts Court Over Alleged Assault Of Lawman

A 26-year-old man alleged to have assaulted a Special Police Constable on the night of the Hibiscus crowning was remanded in custody by the Nasinu Magistrates Court on Monday.

Taniela Navudi was charged with one count of serious assault after he unlawfully assaulted SC Kaminieli Laliqavoka and caused injuries to him.

The alleged incident happened on August 18, 2018, at around 10.18pm at Savila House complex, Valelevu, when the special constable was on duty patrol.

He noticed a group of youths fighting in front of the complex and when he approached them the accused allegedly hit him and pushed him.

Legal Aid Commission lawyer Lisiate Qetaki appeared for Navusi as duty solicitor.

Police prosecutor Constable Setareki Mocevakaca served full phase disclosures in court and objected to Navudi’s bail.

Magistrate Sufia Hamza remanded the accused in custody and advised him to file a formal bail application before it can be considered by the court.

The case has been adjourned to August 27, 2018, for mention.
