Republic of Fiji Military Forces new Land Force Commander Colonel Manoa Gadai was the Commanding Officer of the Fiji Battalion in Sinai in 2013 and set a record that challenged other Commanding Officers after him.

Under his command the Fiji Battalion made a clean sweep on all trophies in the Force Skills competition.

This competition allowed all contingents to compete against each other in skills relevant to the Multinational Force and Observers Mission, as well as the profession of arms, and also acted as a significant Force training activity.

The 13 nations serving with the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) in 2013 were Australia, Canada, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Fiji, France, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the United States and Uruguay.

The Fiji Battalion also won the Death March, an event usually won by the Americans or Australians.

The event was a ‘march’ by a team of two dressed in full uniform, webbing (with four magazines), a military pack (complete with a weighted sandbag), and a Columbian rifle.

Fiji also won the driving skills test in Sinai.

Meanwhile, Colonel Gadai recently returned from New York where he completed his three years term as the Military/Police Advisor at the office of Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (PRUN).

Colonel Gadai was the Commanding Officer for the Third Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment (3FIR) before his posting to New York, USA.

He hails from Namotomoto, Nadi, and was recruited in 1988.

He was the Commanding Officer (CO) of the CO Logistic Support Unit (LSU), Third Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment, Force Training Group in Nasinu.

He also joined the Intelligence Department of the RFMF.

Colonel Gadai was the Defence Attache for the United Nations Peacekeeping Force from 2015 – 2018.

He attended the Malaysian Defence College.

Colonel Gadai now commands the Logistic Support Unit (LSU), Engineer Unit, Force Training Unit (FTG), Third Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment (3FIR) and Land Force Commander units supporting the RFMF.

In an earlier statement from the RFMF said: “Having served in a Multilateral Diplomatic Mission, he brings with him a whole new perspective into his command appointment.”

Colonel Gadai’s appointment was effective from July 18th 2018.
