Joan At Ease, Swim For Sister

Team Fiji’s, Joan McGowan is feeling calm as she prepares to participate in six events during the 2018 Junior Pan Pacific competition.
McGowan will take part in the 400metres individual medley (IM), 200IM, 200 freestyle 1500 freestyle, 100m butterfly and 200m butterfly at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre, Suva today.
The 14-year old student of Swami Vivekananda College says this will be a good learning experience for her and she would like to achieve her personal best.
“This is my second international competition and I think this is a good opportunity for me and my fellow Fijians to be exposed.
“We are just young swimmers from a small nation compared to the experienced swimmers from bigger nations.
“We have big names from the world of swimming here but I am feeling at ease and will try my best.”
McGowan who has been in the sport for five years now was inspired by my older sister, Amber who gave up the sport due to injury.
“My sister started swimming before I did. After her knee injury she quit so I was inspired to continue and I will swim for her.”
