Police Probe Foreign Labourer’s Death

The Fiji Police Force has confirmed the death of a 51-year-old Chinese na­tional who died while working at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the incident happened before midday last Sunday.

The man is believed to have fallen to his death while painting a part of the Vodafone Arena.

He died on the spot.

He is understood to have been working for a company contracted to carry out repairs at the Vodafone Arena.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

A Fiji Sun team went to the Arena to try to speak to company officials, but was told that they were not there and none of the employees present could speak English.

Comments have been sought from the Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jone Usamate.

The Chinese Embassy has expressed its condolences over the unfortunate incident and revealed in a statement that they have demanded that the com­pany concerned properly handle the af­termath of the incident.

Investigations into the circumstances of the foreigner’s death are continuing.
