ANGEL Magazine has appointed Human Rights Lawyer Sabrina Iqbal Khan as its brand ambassador.

The Lautoka-based magazine’s editor Raveen Kumar, who suffers from muscular dystrophy along with his two brothers, said he came to the decision because he found Ms Khan did not “just speak about her intentions, but actually follows through with them”.

Ms Khan was recently awarded a taxi licence.

Now she will be able to purchase a vehicle to transport people with their wheelchairs – all this for free. “My brothers and I suffer from this disease and are confined to wheelchairs,” Mr Kumar said.

“We can barely move and are dependent on our mother.

“That didn’t stop me. I still have a voice and the decision to do something with it so I decided on initiating the magazine last year.

“We have also launched our brand T-Shirts, which will be available at the next magazine launch in September for Issue 6 and so much more.”

ANGEL Magazine held an afternoon tea party recently during which a networking platform was created consisting of people from all walks of life.

The event was opened by local fashion designer and singer artist Joshua Waqa. One of the speakers, Varsha Kumar spoke about the importance of using one’s voice to empower others.

Ms Khan said: “Women Empowerment is about this man Raveen making a stand for those who are disadvantaged,” she said.

“Women Empowerment is about coming together as a whole to speak for the oppressed, to promote peace, unity and engage in Godly presence.

“While I am honoured to have been appointed as Brand Ambassador for ANGEL Magazine, I am also aware of the responsibility and diligence that come with this role. With the Lord’s help and guidance, it is my hope to do the best I can to serve this worthy cause.” Edited by Percy Kean
