Lani Pallister trusted herself that she would win and finally achieved it.

She won the first gold for Australia in the women’s 800 metres freestyle at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre, Suva on Thursday night.

Pallister said it was an amazing moment for her to hear the Australian anthem and her team-mates singing.

Pallister added that she aims to qualify for the 2020 Olympics and need to do a lot of hard work.

“My race on Thursday was really amazing competing against swimmers from two different countries,” Pallister said.

“I really trust myself and swim to plan.

“I was really excited to hear my own national anthem and singing it proudly.

“I managed to achieve a personal best and would like to be part of the 2020 Olympics.

“It needs a lot of hard work improving and fixing every little thing that I can do.

Pallister also won silver on Thursday in the women’s 200m freestyle.

Pallister was part of the Australian quartet alongside Michael Ryan Eliza King and Gretchen Walsh in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay that won silver again last night.
