Royals first, then poll

Maybe Fiji should wait for the royal visit before heading to elections. The last thing the Royals would want to do is to come to Fiji or any country in the middle of an elections.

Seems about right that we get the Royal visit out of the way first.

Media families

Couple of media family husbands are moving around, people. Here’s some news to help you keep track in this fast changing world.

Geoff Smith bailed out from Fiji TV CEO to work for George Rubine’s Pacific Reach public relations to suddenly appear at Fiji Water. in a new public /stakeholder relations role.

Mr Rubine replaced him at Pacific Reach by bringing in accomplished former senior Fiji Times journalist Avinesh Gopal. The longtime Times man is apparently now heading a team public relations specialist and publishing veteran Mr Rubine is assembling to launch digital publications.

Meanwhile …

Mr Smith’s wife Christine – also ex-Fiji TV – is doubling up on her advertising manager role at the Fiji Times. She is keeping a temporary overall eye on the business of running the newspaper until a GM is appointed to replace departing publisher Hank Arts.

(BTW: Speculation a Motibhai loyalist with newspaper startup and publishing experience could get that role.)

Back on the other side of the Times building Mr Gopal’s wife Monika continues as business editor of the Fiji Times following her husband’s surprise departure.

All clear, people?

Prasad’s favourite

NFP Watch: Leader Biman Prasad must be mighty pleased with his favourite newspaper (clue: not the Fiji Sun) for leaving the news of a fellow candidate’s embarrassing court appearance out of Saturday’s paper.
