The Interclub Powerlifting Championship was held at the Charman’s All Races Gym in Suva yesterday.

Fiji Powerlifting Federation president Eric Jioji said they want more to take up the sport.

“We wanted more students and clubs participating in this sport,” Jioji said

“This is not only for awareness and promotion. This is also a build-up towards the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa.

“We want four powerlifters to represent Fiji next year.

“We have clubs from the University of the South Pacific and Fiji National University.”

Jioji added it was a good turnout with 20 males and 15 female athletes participating.

The national trials will be held in November.
