Three women were charged yesterday and appeared at a special sitting at the Nasinu Magistrates Court.

Seini Turaga, Viriseta Rokovunisinu and Repeka Ratu appeared before Magistrate Sufia Hamza.

Turaga is charged with one count of indecently annoying any person.

Rokovunisinu and Ratu are charged with one count each of serious assault.

It is alleged that on August 24, 2018, the three women allegedly assaulted and indecently annoyed another woman inside the compound of the Police Special Response Unit in Makoi, Nasinu during the Police Wives Tournament.

The complainant is understood to be a Police officer and the three accused are Police wives.

The three accused opted for legal aid representation.

Police prosecutor inspector Suliasi Saunitoga told the court that the three women do not share any domestic relationship with the complainant.

Magistrate Hamza asked the prosecutor why the case was called on urgency as the cases were usually called on near or upon completion of 48 hours of an investigation period.

The prosecutor requested the court to summon the Divisional Prosecuting Officer (DPO) Southern to give the reasons as to why the case was called on urgency.

Inspector Saunitoga had also objected to the bail of the three accused on the grounds that the incident happened inside the Police compound.

Magistrate Hamza told the three accused to file a proper bail application on their next date.

All three were remanded in custody and the matter was adjourned to August 27.
