Businessman Mohammed Imitiaz Khan and his family are living in fear after they were attacked by five masked men armed with cane knives at their home at Solovi Road, Nadi, yesterday.

The 39-year-old was asleep with this family when the incident happened at around 12.20am.

Mr Khan said the five men broke into their home with pinch bars and cane knives.

“They stole more than $15,000 worth of my wife’s jewellery, which were purchased locally and overseas too,” he said.

“They ransacked our living room and took two laptops, wallet with cash in it, cheques, our television set, three mobile phones and even stole food from our kitchen.

“Then they entered the room where I was sleeping with my daughter and held me at knifepoint, they beat me up and tied my hands, sealed my mouth with duct tape.

“They then entered the other room and did the same to my wife where she was sleeping with my son. Then they started demanding me to give them money, if not they would kill me,” he added.

Mr Khan said that the five men warned his wife to keep her mouth shut if not they would have killed her.

He added that their car, which cost around $90,000 which was purchased a year ago was also stolen.

“We have been renting in this two-bedroom flat for nearly four years now and this is the first time that anything horrific like this has ever happened to us.

“My 10-year-old daughter had seen what all had happened, it still terrifies her and it’s sad that she had to go through this,”Mr Khan added.

He said the cost of items stolen apart from the car and jewellery was more than $30,000.

Police Media Liaison Officer Ana Naisoro said that no arrests had been made and police investigations were continuing.
