The University of the South Pacific took out the inaugural 2018 Inter-Club Pow­erlifting Championship at the Char­man’s All Races Gym in Suva last Saturday.

USP scored 15 points while Fiji National Uni­versity came in second with 12 and followed by the National Fitness Centre with 10.

Fiji Powerlifting Federation president Eric Jioji said the turnout was overwhelming in the men’s competition with a total of five clubs being registered.

“A total of 19 athletes competed representing five clubs around the country,” he said.

“USP came in full force with three female athletes and six male.

“Areesha Lal and Tiana Jones really stepped up and provided competition to 2015 powerlift­ing silver medallist Sainiana Abariga.”

USP took out the overall men’s competition followed by FNU and NFC.

National Fitness Centre claimed first place in the women’s competition with USP coming in second while FNU and Bodybuilding Acad­emy of Lautoka were in third place.
