Works On 5 Water Sources Begin

Works to start fixing five existing dams in the farming settlement of Laqere in Sigatoka will be carried out soon.
This was confirmed by the Minister for Waterways, Mahendra Reddy while visiting farming settlements within the area yesterday.
“This will assist about 20 farmers in this area as the drought season has started to take its toll in the Western Division,” he said.
Mr Reddy expects works to start in a few weeks time.
“We have seen that the depth near these dams needs to be deepened and widened because they have underwater sources,” Mr Reddy said.
“This will be their water sources for livestock, crop irrigation and vegetable farms.”
Laqere advisory councillor, Varan Sharma thanked the Government for its assistance.
“The drought season here goes on for more than three months, we have stopped farming and the land is now left barren because the water sources have started to dry,” Mr Sharma said.
“We want to thank Government for its timely assistance, which will greatly assist us in this drought season.”
