Ex-LTA Officer To Hear Ruling On September 14

The court ruling of a man charged with bribery, abuse of office and attempting to prevent justice, will be heard on September 21.
The accused, Aniz Ahmed, appeared at the Nadi Magistrates Court before Magistrate Peni Dalituicama yesterday charged with three separate counts. The accused is a former Road Safety Officer from the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
He is charged with one count of bribery, one count of abuse of office, and one count of attempting to prevent the course of justice.
The matter allegedly took place on March 28, 2012 in Nadi where the accused allegedly solicited and accepted an advantage namely $28 in cash allegedly from one Ajay Nand while doing his duty.
His alleged action was prejudicial to the rights of the LTA.
Between August 1 and August 3, 2012, in Nadi, the accused allegedly attempted to prevent the course of justice by allegedly influencing a Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) prosecution witness, where he allegedly influenced an officer to withdraw the complaint against him.
Lawyer Jessie Lagonilakeba represented FICAC.
Magistrate Dalituicama adjourned the case since the ruling was not ready.
