Grandfather fronts court for alleged rape of minor

A 37-year-old grandfather charged with one count of rape appeared in the High Court in Suva yesterday via video link conference.

The accused pleaded not guilty before Justice Daniel Goundar.

The offence allegedly took place on May 11, 2018, in Lau where the accused allegedly performed the sexual act on the victim, a child under the age of 13.

The state prosecutor told the court that they had received the accused’s bail application and sought for court’s time to respond.

The prosecutor told the court that they had filed the proposed agreed facts to the court and the accused.

The State was granted 14 days to file bail response and file it before September 14.

The matter was adjourned for bail hearing on September 20 before Justice Goundar via video link conference.
