Opposition parliamentarians Semesa Karavaki and Mikaele Leawere are confident that they will be named in the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) provisional candidate list to contest the 2018 General Election.

Both Members of Parliament were not on the party’s provisional candidates list that was announced at the Novotel Convention Centre last Saturday.

Speaking to the Fiji Sun yesterday, Mr Leawere reassured that there was nothing for him to be concerned about because he was “still in the running including the honourable Karavaki”.

Mr Karavaki said he was not aware that he had been excluded from the party adding that his exclusion from Saturday’s announcement could be due to
various reasons.

“My exclusion from the announcement on Saturday can be because there are a lot of things we have to take into account,” he said.

“Considerations by the party officials and there are many things that I do not have any control over.”

Mr Karavaki said the payment of the $6000 levy by candidates was not an issue for him.

“Whatever the decision is going to be it is going to be for the good of the party.”

The announcement on Saturday brings the SODELPA list to 42 provisional candidates with nine remaining to be announced to make up the 51 Parliament seats that is to be contested in this year’s election.
