The Oceania 7s tournament will be staged on November 9-10 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

Thirteen men’s teams Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Cook Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Tonga and Vanuatu will participate.

In the women’s division, Fiji, Australia, Cook Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Samoa and Papua New Guinea will take part.

Oceania Rugby women’s director Cathy Wong confirms America Samoa, Tonga and Tahiti will not fill in women’s teams.

“Niue women will be replacing America Samoa and the best in the world of 7s are coming to Suva,”she said.

“Fiji will once again reinforce to the world this is where happiness is found especially when it comes to rugby 7s.

“This event would not have been possible without our collaborative partnership with the Fiji Rugby Union and the Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou.”

Tuitubou said; “The government of Fiji is delighted again to host another international sporting event.

“The intention of the Fiji government is very clear.  We intend of making Fiji a destination in the Asia Pacific region when it comes to hosting international sporting events.

“Our vision is to give equal opportunities to give our support to all sporting teams so that they become competitive.”

FRU chief executive officer John O’Connor looks forward to another successful competition.

“We always believe that Fiji is a spiritual home of 7s and we look forward to have that again in November as teams come and enjoy the Fijian hospitality,” O’Connor said.

“We are using this as a pathway to prepare to host international 7s tournaments, build capacity as we look forward to host the teams.”
