The High Court in Suva has set October 22 as the date for pre-trial conference for a 26-year-old man.

Manasa Ratuloaloa appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar via video link conference with the Suva Remand Centre yesterday.

Ratuloaloa is charged with one count of each of abduction of a person under the age of 18 with intent to have carnal knowledge, wrongful confinement, indecently annoying any person, assault with intent to commit rape and one count of rape.

It is alleged that on January 25, Ratuloaloa offered the school student a ride and took her to Lakena Irrigation Road, where he allegedly raped her.

The girl managed to fight off her attacker and freed herself and it is alleged the suspect then tried to run the victim over with his car.

The victim was under the age of 13 at the time of the incident.

The State prosecutor told the court they had filed the proposed agreed facts to the defence counsel and the criminal court registry.

The defence counsel informed the court that they would file voir dire.

The accused also alleged that he was assaulted by Police officers and was told to confess and sign the caution interview.

Ratuloaloa also claimed that he did not read his caution interview and was forced to sign the printed copy of the interview.

The State prosecutor said they had four witnesses and were relying as well on the caution interview and the medical report of the victim.
