Minnows Nasinu eager to slay football giants

Defending Courts Inter District Champions Lautoka are in a tough pool.

During the official pool draws in Suva yesterday, the Blues are going to face Labasa, Ba and Nasinu in Group A while hosts Suva lead Group B where they take on Nadi, Rewa and either Tavua or Dreketi.

Speaking to SUNsports, newly promoted Nasinu Football Association president, Oneil Chand said they are going to put on their best performance so they remain in the Premier division.

“Looking at our pool basically we are in the pool of death,” he said.

“We will maintain our name as the giant killers of Fiji football. We will be going hard on the teams we meet and we have been preparing very well.”

Chand added that they are going to make new inclusion into the side in order to maintain their standard during the competition.

“We are still in talks with a few teams regarding some players who have played for the national team to be part of our squad.

“Our focus is to at least win the competition. We will try our best in the competition. We will not lose hope since it’s after eight years we are back and we will try our best to be in the premier division.”

During the late 1980s, Nasinu had top players like goalkeeper Suka Tuba, Tupe Kosa, Meli Tuqota, Eliki Tabaki and midfield general Eliki Lui.

But over the years, Nasinu FA have produced top players like Tagi Vonolagi, Ronald Chaudhry, Safiq Ali, Tomu Vania, Ronald Ram, Shalesh Kumar, Dinesh ‘China’ Kumar, Jone Naqiri, Rajesh Kumar and the list goes on.

Chand has called on all their supporters to come out in numbers to support them during the IDC.
