Assistant Minister for Environment Lorna Eden has resigned from her post.
She has also resigned from the Assistant Minister for Housing post which she had held.
It is believed she resigned in the early hours of this morning. Her resignation follows revelations in the Fiji Sun about digging of channels and cutting of mangroves at her Bakabaka Island property without any Environmental Impact Assessment being carried out.
A statement from Government is expected to be released on this issue shortly.
Update: STATEMENT FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRIME MINISTER
Given the current investigation into Mainland Resorts Limited, the Honourable Prime Minister has accepted the resignation of Honourable Lorna Eden as Assistant Minister effective as of 7 September 2018. Honourable Eden has resigned as Assistant Minister from all her portfolios.
The Honourable Lorna Eden will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament.
