Inoke Navunilagi 57 of Lovu Lautoka said: “I’m happy because it’s been dry for a very long time.”

He had been seated inside his house patiently waiting for some rain as his crops were dying out.

“I always hoped that it rains but it never did,” he said.

Mr Navunilagi is a sugarcane farmer who had lost majority of his ratoon due to the massive dry spell.

But the happiness on the entire face of the villagers were noticeable.

“All the farmers are celebrating this rain,” said Mr Navunilagi.

He also said that the dry spell had affected grazing for his cattle.

But looking at the livestock, Mr Navunilagi said that green pasture would soon be a reality.

He is also hopeful that his sugarcane plantation would take shape again.
