Well-known West-based disc jockey, Irshad Hussain, passed away yesterday morning at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Lautoka hospital.

The late Irshad Hussain.

The late Irshad Hussain.

Mr Hussain was famously dubbed Tukuna Boy O Nadi Ko and hosted the Saturday Night Hype on the Mix FM radio station.

His famous drop lines would be greeting people in many languages.

Fellow radio personality Joslyne Thaggard had known Mr Hussain for three years.

She said the news of his death had come as a shock.

“Being a small company, we’ve built relationships with each other and close bonds so we’ve learnt to treat each other as family and Irshad was our big brother and our boss,” Ms Thaggard said.

“But no matter what he would always go out of his way (no matter how much trouble he’d get in) to help us.”

Mr Hussain is a former student of Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial College (SSKMC) and joined Radio Fiji in the 90s. He later joined Mix FM in its founding days in Lautoka.

He died at the age of 40 after a short illness.

He was buried at the Enamanu Muslim Cemetery. He is survived by four sisters and four nephews.
