There should be no discrimination of pay at any workplace.

This was highlighted by Minister for Employment, Productivity and Employment Relations Jone Usamate during the public consultation in Tavua yesterday.

“People doing the same kind of job should be given the same level of pay,” Mr Usamate said.

He said that no level of gender discrimination should be present at any workplace.

“There should be no discrimination in terms of gender or any other grounds.

“These are the values embodied in the Constitution, therefore mandatory for everyone to follow it,” Mr Usamate said.

“The ministry is continually trying to align the International Labor Law into its constitution in order to prevent such cases at workplaces.”

Rights of the employers and the employees, were also highlighted during the consultation.

“Our constitution has rights for everyone,” Mr Usamate said.

He added that the Government was also considering increasing the attachment allowance for students from $60 per week to $100 per week.

Mr Usamate said incentives had been in place for businesses hiring disabled persons.

“If you employ someone who is disabled, then you can claim 300 per cent tax rebate,” he said.

“Businesses hiring first time workers would be provided with a 200 per cent tax rebate.”

This was all to ensure a feasible growth and development in the labour force of the country.

Mr Usamate added that 150 per cent tax rebate would be provided to companies that send their staff to upgrade their qualifications.
