Inoke Nalaga hopes to continue the rugby tradition in the family by making the Fijian Under -18 Schoolboys tour of New Zealand later this month.

He wants to be like father Kavekini Nalaga and brother Napolioni Nalaga who both played as wingers for the Flying Fijians.

Dad Kavekini played for Fiji at the first Rugby World Cup in 1987 in New Zealand and scored a try in the 28-9 win against Argentina.

Brother Napolioni currently plays as wing/centre for London Irish in England.

The Nasama, Nadroga native is excited to be in the U18 squad that will play three games in New Zealand and departs on September 27.

The Cuvu College student always looks up to his dad and brother for guidance.

“I am just trying to be like them and continue the rugby tradition in the family

“Napolioni always motivates since I was small,”he said.

“I was in Year One to Year Three in Fiji before I went to France to continue my school from Year Four to Year Eight.

“I came back and I started playing rugby in Year 9 at Natabua High School.

“This year I played for Cuvu College in the Deans Trophy final against Ratu Kadavulevu School.”

Nalaga is looking to making the cut for the New Zealand tour. “

The side will play Wellington Samoans in a warm up match before they take on the New Zealand Barbarians and New Zealand Maori.

U16 Prep For Oz Tour

The Fijian Under-16 national rugby squad is preparing for the Australian Inter-State Rugby competition in Gold Coast, Australia as from September 29.

Coach Masi Saqanivere said they need to do it right during their preparation.

“Simple things like discipline and attitude towards training maters if we are to do well on the field,” Saqanivere said

“The players come from different various schools to participate for the Deans competition and we are trying to build team bonding.

“Next week we will be having four days camp where we will be focusing on the games specifics.”

Tour itinerary: September 30 vs Brumbies; October 2 vs NSW; October 4 vs Queensland.
