Dreketi Upgrade Benefits Travellers

A major upgrade is being carried out by the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) on the Dreketi Feeder Road in Vanua Levu.
The work will be delivered through Fulton Hogan Hiways as part of the periodic road maintenance programme to provide access in the Central, Eastern and the Northern Division.
Located off the Labasa/Nabouwalu Road, Dreketi Feeder Road is almost midway between Labasa and Savusavu, each town being about 60kilometres away in either direction. The road serves the Government station, two schools, 14 villages, seven settlements, a shopping centre, as well as people travelling to Nabouwalu and Savusavu.
Mesake Tabuaciri, a church pastor and Justice of Peace in Dreketi, said, the location had a special significance for people selling food to travellers.
“The Nabouwalu jetty is a part of the main shipping route between Natovi and Nabouwalu and Patterson Shipping buses that transfer passengers stop at the Dreketi market for food before they continue to Labasa or Savusavu.
The road used to be narrow and dusty but now it is safe and dust free.” The 350-metre road has been stablised, compacted and will be sealed.
