Determination to provide for her family has a been a powerful motive for 47-year-old Gianamma.
She was one of the many women who graduated from the Fiji Muslim League’s Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre on Thursday.
After her husband died a few years ago, she worked extra hard to help herself and her three children.
“We had a sugarcane farm when my husband left us, and I had to work in the farm as it was the only source of income in the family. Every day was like a heavy load on my back carrying the burden of everyday life,” Ms Gianamma said.
“I had no hope that I could be a good mother to my children in supporting their education.”
However, after hearing about the Centre, she found a way to improve her situation.
On Thursday, she graduated with a Sewing Certificate.
“Dreams became a reality when I came to know about this institution from an old friend of mine.
“Without any hesitation I enrolled and now I am graduating with my first Certificate,” Ms Gianamma said.
“Coming to this school with no knowledge of what awaits me and with my entire burden, I was so surprised with what I was offered.
“It was an eye-opener and a path to a new life for me.
“I thank the management for giving me the opportunity to see life from a different perspective.
“During my eight weeks of learning, my knowledge has taught me that I can earn for myself and has help me look at the brighter side of life.
“My worries are no more a burden and I am excited to showcase the skills I have learned from the Centre.”
