Heat, Mis-Hit, Indiscipline Letdown

Fiji Airways Fijian Drua met their match in Mackay as they went down 22-52 to Queensland Country in round three of the National Rugby Championship yesterday.

While playing in the mid-day heat could be a factor, the mis-tackles, indiscipline and lack of continuity took out the wind from the Drua sail as they found it hard to recover in a patchy performance.

An early try in the 2nd minute to Avete Daveta put the Fijians in good footing but that was positives in the first spell as rising star Jordan Petaia made it look easy scoring first half hat-trick and winger Jock Campbell nabbed two tries of his own in the eight to four try win.

Two of the most experienced players Frank Lomani and Serupepeli Vularika were yellow carded.

The Drua had plenty of territory but just couldn’t convert their chances, with a misjudged pass and some basic errors costing them close to the line.

The Fijian Drua were clearly not their best and showed but they need to sort out their discipline before they play the Sydney Rays next weekend.
