A combined sports day between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport together with other commercial statutory bodies was a way to promote healthy living.

The day of sporting competition was held at the Suva Grammar School ground yesterday.

While officiating at the event, Acting Deputy Secretary for Infrastructure and Transport George Tavo stressed the importance of the theme ‘Health is Wealth’ and how government through relevant ministries and sporting organisations are doing so much to promote healthy living.

“The general public and individual Fijians should show ownership of their health,” Tavo said.

“We need to promote it with the common goal of creating a healthy economy.     “We need to take ownership of our individual health and our holistic well-being especially being physically active, have positive effects on individuals, the economy and the society in general.”

Tavo encouraged participants to find the time to try out all forms of physical activity and entrench it in their daily lives.

“I urge you all to go back and be ambassadors of wellness and healthy living in your family, communities and workplace.

“If we all take a concerted effort in living a healthy life, we can still make a difference.”
