Fiji Airways Fijian Drua suffered their first loss in the National Rugby Championship on their first away home game against defending champions Queensland Country.

Queensland gave the Fijian Drua a 52-22 thrashing at the BB Print Stadium Mackay yesterday.

What happened: The Fijian Drua drew first blood with a try to Avete Daveta in the 2nd minute to lead 5-0.

Queensland replied with a try from Jordan Petaia in the 10th minute which was converted by Hamish Stewart.

A yellow card to halfback Frank Lomani for a professional foul did not help the side as the Queenslander took advantage of their tons of possession and mistackles by the Drua, giving the host five tries, Petaia (2), Jock Campbell (2) and Duncan Paia’aua (1). Four of the tries were converted by Stewart, giving the host the lead 40-5.

A penalty try to the Drua had Country leading 40-12 at halftime.

Halftime: Queensland 40-12 Fijian Drua

With a sloppy first half, the Fijian Drua regained momentum, which allowed Apisalome Waqatabu to score their second try to close the gap to 40-17.

Queensland Reds winger Filipo Daugunu dodged past the Drua forwards to score a try, with a conversion from Stewart to further their lead to 47-17.

Ratunaisa Nauma replied by scoring a try in the 72nd minute.

But Harry Wilson had the last laugh scoring the final try which was converted by Stewart.

Fulltime: Queensland 55-22 Fijian Drua
