Super sub Luke Savu saved Ba from the jaws of defeat against minnows Dreketi as they settled for a 1-1 draw in the Vodafone Premier League clash at the Fiji FA Academy ground in Ba yesterday.

Savu is the son of former Ba and national football striker Taito Bula. This result has enabled Lautoka to retain the Vodafone Premier League title.

What happened: Dreketi who badly needed a win drew first blood in the 31st minute from free kick taken by veteran Usaia Tadu.

The free kick came after Ba’s Laisenia Raura fouled Apisai Sesewa on right hand side of the box and Tadu rifled a low shot that caught Ba goalkeeper Josaia Ratu napping.

Halftime: Dreketi 1 – 0 Ba.

Ba had many goal scoring chances but attempts by Manasa Nawaikula and Amena Bolaitamana were way off the mark. But things changed for the hosts when Savu in the 81st minute managed to slot in the equaliser.

Big play: Sesewa was on fire for Dreketi while Tadu played his heart out as they looked for a win.

Comments: Ba manager Arvind Singh said: “We had two experienced strikers who did not feature but overall the boys managed to play well and equalised but we need to win tomorrow’s match.”

Dreketi coach Roneel Lal said: “I told the team that we needed a draw. Now we will go for a win tomorrow.”
