Team Nausori Combined were crowned the winners of the Under-15 Fiji Secondary Schools Australian Football League after they edged out Suva Grammar Secondary School 17-13 at Albert Park, Suva yesterday.

Fijian U15 coach Alipate Savai said this was a build-up towards selecting a team for the Junior Fijian Tribe team for the Oceania Cup competition in November.

Savai added that since Fiji are the defending champions, they would want to retain the title.

“We were expecting more than nine teams in today’s competition but only a few turned up,” he said.

“Nevertheless the teams that participated showed a lot potential and a few players with the size we want are starting to come into the competition for the under-15.

“The Nausori team which consists of Lelean Memorial School students and a few club players really gave a good game.

“We will be selecting a 50-member extended squad and the final trial will be held on October 10 where a final team will be selected.”

Teams that will be participating during the Oceania Cup competition are Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Nauru.

RESULTS

SGS 19-11 JWC, Nausori 75-0 AOG and SGS 13-17 Nausori
