Former Finance Minis­ter Ratu Jone Yavala Kubuabola died yes­terday following a long ill­ness.

Ratu Jone, who was born on September 11, 1946, passed away five days after his 72nd birthday.

He held the position of Fi­nance Minister from 2000 to 2006 and also represented the South West Urban Fi­jian Communal constituen­cies in the House of Repre­sentatives, to which he was elected as a candidate of the Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua (SDL) party in 2001.

He was also the former governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji.

Former Fiji National Provident Fund chief executive officer, Lionel Yee said: “I am so sorry to hear of Ratu Jone Yavala Kubuabola ‘s passing.  He was a quiet achiever and left a legacy of contribution to Fiji.  My condolences to his family.”

The late Ratu Jone’s memorial celebration service will be held at 10am tomorrow at the Centenary Church in Suva followed by his burial at the Suva Ex­tension Cemetery.

A homecoming celebra­tory meal will be held at the Novotel Convention Centre after the burial.

No reguregu will be held as requested in a final wish by the late Ratu Jone.
