The Water Authority of Fiji is urging members of the public in the Northern Division to utilise water wisely.

So far six out of the 14 water sources in the Northern Division have reached critical level.

And for the month of August, WAF water carting co-ordinator Miliana Vueti said they had delivered 14.5 million litres of water in the Northern Division.

“Navealevu, one of the major water sources, is giving below yield during this period of no rain,” Ms Vueti said.

“The current situation at the major water system is drying up and that is something beyond our control.

“We are pleading with members of the public on the importance of water conservation.

“For Labasa we have three major systems and the main system is at Benau. This is why we are doing community awareness programme in the Northern Division because of the prolonged dry spell we are facing,” she said.

Ms Vueti said while water carting continued to service affected areas, customers were being advised to call 5107 for any water complaints.
