After many years, Fiji Sugar Corporation for the first time will ship out sugar to China this week.

This was confirmed by the FSC chief executive officer Graham Clark.

The first sugar shipment was done last week and it departed for Europe.

“For the second shipment from Labasa 22,000 tonnes of sugar were loaded on the Erradale vessel and 11,700 tonnes will be from Lautoka,” Mr Clark said.

“This first cargo to China after many years was priced at a commercial premium to the world market price.”

He said the value of the first and second shipment will be finalised after the arrival.

When questioned whether FSC secured new markets despite a global drop in sugar price, Mr Clark said yes despite low world sugar prices, Fiji sugar was still sought after.

“We are expecting a total of five shipments for this season and the last one will be done early 2019,” he said.

“The third shipment will be done in October.

“All the mills in Fiji are performing well and able to meet target as daily expected.

“Our advice to the farmers is to keep supplying full daily quotas.”
