The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development, National Disaster Management and Meteorological Services through the National Disaster Management Office continues to work with the Water Authority of Fiji.

This is in terms of the water carting exercise around the rural and maritime areas in the wake of the dry spell.

After the first two weeks of operation, the water carting exercise for the Lomaiviti group has been completed.

The team onboard the MLC Sigavou has delivered 39,000 liters of water in Makogai, 28,166 liters in Batiki, and 6795 liters for Moturiki in this initial phase of the Eastern Division Immediate Response Plan.

The carting of water for Northen Lau commenced last Thursday with the focus on Avea, Cikobia and Adi Maopa Secondary School.

This schedule will also cover Lovu village and Gau Secondary School upon their return while the team is expected to supply and meet the capacity target of the affected communities for the duration of two weeks pending further assessment of prevailing weather conditions affecting the group.

The NDMO has also received requests from Southern Lau including Kabara, Oneata, Ogea and Totoya for water carting where the delivery will be scheduled once verification has been completed by the relevant agencies on the ground.

Meanwhile a total of 1,267,000 liters of water have been delivered to the Yasawa’s including Malolo Island, Waya Lailai Island, Wayalevu, Yasawa, Vatulele, Viwa and Nacula Island.

The NDMO continues to monitor and is on standby.
