Three Fijian Teachers Awarded Scholarships to Study in Japan

Three Fijians – Asinate Qioniwasa, Clive Mawa, and Meenal Sagar – have been awarded Japanese Government Scholarships for teacher training.

Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers a two-year scholarship to Fijian school teachers at Japanese universities.

They are current teachers in Nausori, Lautoka, and Labasa, and will continue their career as teachers after they have completed their study programme in Japan.

Ms Qioniwasa will study Science Education in Hirosaki University, Mr Mawa will study pedagogy in the University of Toyama and Ms Sagar studies English Education at Tohoku University.

The Ambassador of Japan, Masahiro Omura, hopes that the three of them will become outstanding teachers who will contribute to the further development of education in Fiji with the knowledge and skills acquired in Japan.

Mr Omura hopes that they  will build special bonds with Japan and play an active part as a bridge between Fiji and Japan in the future.
