Chambers: Family is Everything

For Nicolette Mayberick Mary Chambers her family has been her pillar of strength through challenging times.
The young Chambers, who followed in her father’s footsteps in the field of journalism, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of the South Pacific in a ceremony at the FMF Gymnasium yesterday.
And her father, our very own Charles Chambers, couldn’t be more proud of his daughter’s achievements.
But like many, the journey to get to where she is today hasn’t been easy.
“It was a really tough journey especially being away from family,” said Ms Chambers.
“Ever since I was small, I stayed with my family however, in 2015, I had to move to Suva to start with my tertiary education. This was a first.
“My family has been through a lot and most of our problems were financial.”
Ms Chambers who is from Sanasana in Nadroga said: “I wanted to become a journalist and my father was my inspiration for that.”
In 2017, Ms Chambers failed one of her units. She felt it was the end of the road. But the continuous support and confidence from her family empowered her to look beyond this phase.
“I found it challenging while doing one unit but through prayer and dedication to school work I was able to achieve my goals,” she said.
Mr Chambers said: “I am a very proud father and I wish her all the best.”
Her aunt, Mary Panapasa, said: “My niece, for all these years that she has been here, we wanted her to achieve her dreams.
“I was so close to her mom, I wanted to do everything to support her and her parents and it’s just so overwhelming.”
