Districts Urged To Secure Town Land Plots

Funds raised during the Adi Bua Festival and Bula Re Showcase 2018 will be directed to secure nine plots of land in Nabouwalu, one for each of the nine districts in the Bua province.

The announcement was made by Assistant Roko Tui Bua Iliesa Tulagi during a talanoa session at Namalata Village, Kubulau.

Mr Tulagi said it had been an ongoing initiative of the Vale Ni Tikina, adding that a district was expected to raise $40,000 for the commercial plot, and it was the duty of the districts to develop them.

“Not only will the money raised from the carnival be used to buy commercial lots, we could start a new office and a garden from which locals will benefit,” Mr Tulagi said.

“In the past, funds raised were directed towards a scholarship for the children of Bua in tertiary institutions, but this year it will be used to secure nine land plots for each of the district.

“While Government is working towards the declaration of Nabouwalu as a town we, the people of Bua, have to ensure that we are able to play an important role in its running. This is in the sense where are able to reap financial benefits as well as helping the town’s economy to grow.”

The carnival takes place from November 7 to 8 at Nabouwalu.

Mr Tulagi called for the support of all the districts, saying this was a bid to help them be financially productive.

“Togetherness is the way forward for us. We need to unite and be focused on a goal to help develop and move Bua forward,” he said.

The Fijian Government has invested $1.7 million to develop the Nabouwalu New Town Project in Bua, Vanua Levu.

Minister of Local Government, Urban Development, and Housing Parveen Bala said the development of the town marked the first time that a plan and design was finalised before a town was constructed in the country.

“We will soon see Nabouwalu as a municipality, having its own town facilities prepared for its people, including a well-serviced centre for trade that offers a lot of opportunities,” he said.

The contract has been awarded to Taiyub Hussein of Hussain’s Hire Plant to carry out the development. Works are expected to be finished within the next 12 months.
