Fiji Airways continues to grow. In the air and on the ground.

The national airline has purchased two lots of land from the new Voivoi Land Development Company Limited (VLDCL) project across from its head office on the Nasoso Road, Nadi.

Fiji Airways has declined to state the price of the lots saying it was confidential but confirmed the development.

The two lots are part of the 83 lots which are being developed by VLDCL for around $45 million.

“The present plans are to use the new acquisition as a temporary car park for staff,” Fiji Airways said in a statement.

“We can confirm that we have signed a sale and purchase agreement for acquisition of the land across the road from our current hangar location.

“However, we are unable to divulge the purchase price as this is confidential information between Fiji Airways and the vendor.

“The land acquisition is part of our future planning to expand our head office,” the airline said in the statement.

The current office premises features all its key departments along with its hangar and engineering departments.

“Fiji Airways is poised to grow at a rate of around eight per cent every year, with our operations growing at the same rate,” the statement said.

“Therefore, the current head office will soon be inadequate to house all our functions.

“Prior to these plans being finalised, it will serve as a temporary car park for our staff.”

The Voivoi development has been carried out in two stages with the first stage completed. This has an area of approximately 156,000 square metres while the second stage, which is around 192,000 square metres is in its final stages of completion.

About VLDCL

VLDCL company secretary Manoj Jeet said the first stage of the project was an industrial subdivision.

This is made up of 64 lots of which 62 are industrial while one of the remaining two has been allocated to Energy Fiji Limited and the other an open space.

All infrastructure including electricity, water and other utilities have been installed underground.

Mr Jeet has confirmed that all these lots in Stage One have been sold out.

Some of the country’s leading companies who have already bought lots are believed to be Ashabhai & Co. Ltd, Hot Bread Kitchen, BSP Life, Merchant Finance and New World Supermarkets.

Stage two will have 19 lots with all earmarked for commercial.

Mr Jeet said there had been a lot of interest in the development by leading companies In Fiji.

He said the developers were presently negotiating with potential buyers for Stage Two.

The company has yet to decide whether they too will build on the site.
