Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel.

We are moving in the right direction but the district officials and players have to go with the time and change, says Fiji FA president
The Fiji Football Association has the right people in charge to run the show, says Rajesh Patel.
But the Fiji FA president warns that players and district officials must change their mentality and help grow the game.
Patel made the comment yesterday after the continuing dismal performance of our national teams.
Our Vodafone Fijian Under-16 team bowed out of a chance to play in the FIFA U17 World Cup in Peru next year after the Yogendra Dutt –coached side lost 1-3 to Solomon Islands in the semi-final on Wednesday.
The Bal Sanju Reddy- coached Vodafone Fijian U19 also failed to qualify for the FIFA U20 World Cup.
The Christopher Gamel-coached Vodafone Fijian national side has not won a match in 2018 after losing 2-3 to Philippines, 3-2 to Kaya FC, 1-0 to Malaysia, 1-1 draw with Solomon Islands and 2-0 to Singapore.
“Mentality has to change. We are putting in a lot of efforts to help grow the game of football,” Patel said.
“We are moving in the right direction but the districts and players have to go with the time and change
“The players themselves need to be focussed on how they can become professional athletes in future.
“The mentality of the players here is once they win they go on drinking for two to three weeks.
“When the national coach calls them into camp they turned up overweight.

WRONG FOCUS
“All they think about it money, money, money. You will get the money once you perform to the highest level.
“Money will come when we start the Franchise League in 2020.
“If the players are good enough they will be in the franchise and will get the money.”

NO WORD ON REDDY
Meanwhile, Patel was not able to give any comment on vice-president, Tarunesh Reddy over certain allegations.
“The committee has not come back to us. He (Tarunesh) has not resigned and I cannot say anything right now,” he added. Edited by Osea Bola
